First reviews of Succession final season: “One of television’s greatest achievements”

The fourth (and final) season of succession it was highly praised in early reviews, with critics calling the first four episodes “one of television’s greatest achievements”.

The new season of the series HBO picks up after the events of the season three finale, where Tom Wambsgans (Matthew Macfadyen) notified Logan Roy (Brian Cox) about the Roy brothers’ plan to prevent Waystar Royco from merging with GoJo.

Now that company is slipping away, Kendall (Jeremy Strong), Shiv (Sarah Snook) and Roman Roy (Kieran Culkin) must continue to plot against their father in an ongoing power struggle.

A synopsis for the season reads: “The sale of media conglomerate Waystar Royco to tech visionary Lukas Matsson looms ever closer. The prospect of this seismic sale causes existential angst and family division among the Roys as they anticipate what their lives will be like once the deal is complete.”

The first four episodes of the final season received widespread acclaim, earning four and five star reviews from most critics.

“The powerful performances by the Roy clan offer a dazzling masterclass in pent-up emotions that compete with years of desperate approval from the family patriarch,” he writes. IGN. “Every department behind the cast is at the top of their game, from Succession regular director Mark Mylod to composer Nicholas Britell.”

In a five star review, Empire writes: “Forget ‘boar on the ground.’ Your jaw will be on the ground after watching this season finale. If the level of the first four episodes holds up, it will surely be in contention to be counted among television’s greatest achievements.”.

An equally positive review of Collider says: “Succession Season 4 is telling a more cohesive story than ever, with all the threads weaving together beautifully. The result is a season that’s even more engaging than its predecessors, leaving you hanging on every word of the snappy dialogue.”.
