justin roilandone of the creators of the animated series “Rick and Morty”who also provides his voice for both characters, was acquitted of charges of domestic violence filed by an ex-partner before an Orange County prosecutor’s office in California.
“We dismissed the charges as a result of not having sufficient evidence to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt”informed the specialized site of Hollywood Variety, kimberly eddsspokesman for the Orange County District Attorney’s office.
After the news broke, Roiland wrote a long text on his social networks in which he said he was “grateful that the case has been dismissed.”
“I always knew these claims were false, and I never had any doubt that this day would come,” Roiland said, adding: “I am still deeply shocked by the horrifying lies that have been reported about me during this process. Most of all, I am disappointed. so many people judging so quickly without knowing the facts, based solely on the word of an embittered ex who was trying to circumvent due process and get me ‘canceled’.”
And he concluded: “That it has been successful, even partially, is shameful. However, now that the legal case is over, I am determined to move on and focus on both my creative projects and restoring my good name.”
For this complaint, Hulu had fired Roiland in January, who at the time was an executive producer and provided his voice in the series. “Koalaman” and also participated in “Solar Opposites”.
The complaint against the creative dated from January 2020 and, after a hearing in which he claimed to be innocent, a new presence of him was expected before the Justice for the end of next April.
Roiland’s lawyer, T. Edward Welbournalso issued a statement celebrating: “I commend the Orange County District Attorney’s Office for conducting a thorough review of the facts and deciding to dismiss the case against Justin. I am grateful that justice has prevailed.”
“It’s hard to overstate how inaccurate recent media coverage of this situation has been. To be clear, not only is Justin innocent, but we also have every expectation that this matter is on track to be dismissed once the prosecutor’s office District has completed its methodical review of the evidence. We look forward to clearing Justin’s name and helping him move forward as quickly as possible.”
