“It is a deep joy and pride to represent the group of theater artists on this day, with a collective, federal law, with a popular and feminist perspective”, explained the deputy Stefanía Cora.
Cora highlighted the “effort of many theater performers who fought for this law,” which allows “the process to begin to make it a law and be independent and repair years of struggles and commit to access to culture.”
In addition, he recalled that since January 2020 the group has been working on a bill that “regulates, promotes and encourages activity in Entre Ríos, under a process of democratic, participatory and territorial construction.”
For her part, the provincial secretary of Culture, Francisca D ‘Agostino, celebrated the law that is “very significant for cultural growth”, creating “specific funds for the sectors for their development.”
“Theater we are going to continue doing, without or with law, but with this law it is much better and it is a tool for future generations and the beginning of a better future”said Valeria Bassini, a member of the group from the Gualeguaychú department.
Ignacio Monná, from La Cigarrera Cultural de Concordia, expressed his joy “because it is a project that has been fighting for many years and will protect independent theater, with scholarships, festivals, venues, research projects, and productions.”
Verónica Uzín, from the Paraná theater group “Made by hand”, mentioned that the law “is something that the theater has deserved for many years”; and Milagros Reñé, actress and participant in the drafting of the law, added that “it dignifies the work of the stage worker, who was totally on the sidelines and protects theatrical work.”
The project declares theatrical activity in Entre Ríos of public interest and essential and proposes the creation of a Provincial Theater Council that will generate “motivation and financial support for independent theater” to give “predictability and sustainability to the sector.”
Meanwhile, a similar project presented in 2012 was taken as a reference, the National Theater Law, provincial laws in operation such as those of the provinces of Buenos Aires and Misiones, and the Eastern Republic of Uruguay.
