US musician Neil Diamond talks about his life with Parkinson’s and how painful it was for him to accept the disease.
He received the shock diagnosis during a tour five years ago: US music legend Neil Diamond (82) suffers from Parkinson’s. he is now open about how painful it was for him to accept the disease and how he lives today. “When the doctor told me what it was, I just wasn’t ready to accept it,” Diamond said. He told the doctor that he had to work.
“There is no escape from the situation”
At some point, however, he realized: “There is no cure, there is no escape from the situation. You can’t just say, enough now, let’s go back to life.”
This realization gave him a feeling of calm, says the 82-year-old. “I’ve learned to accept my limitations and I still have great days.”
Diamond also spoke about the Broadway musical “A Beautiful Noise” based on his life. It is “part of his psychotherapy” and sometimes painful to watch. He made a guest appearance at the premiere in December last year. “I can still sing,” he said at the time.
