Singer: Neil Diamond talks about his illness

Neil Diamond has suffered from Parkinson’s for several years. Now the singer has spoken about how he lives with the disease.

In a television interview, US musician Neil Diamond spoke about his personal dealings with his Parkinson’s disease. “I can’t really fight this thing, so I had to accept it, this Parkinson’s disease,” the 82-year-old said on CBS Sunday Morning.

There is no cure, there is no escape. You can’t just say, “Okay, that’s enough. Let’s go back to life.” That’s not how it works. “But I’ve learned to accept the limitations I have and I still have great days.”

For around half a century, the musician, with more than 100 million albums sold and numerous awards, toured the stages of the world almost continuously, then an illness forced him to stop. “It is with great reluctance and disappointment that I announce that I will no longer be performing,” Diamond said in early 2018 after being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. In December, he surprised the audience of a Broadway musical about his life by serenading it.
