The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences of Argentina chose the film as the country’s representative to compete in the Oscars 2022, which will be delivered on March 27 in Los Angeles, United States.
The Argentine film will compete in the Best Foreign Film section, but to reach the award night it must first go through two previous selections made by members of the Hollywood Academy.
Meta’s film is a psychological thriller inspired by the novel “The Lesser Evil”, by CE Feiling, in which the director tries to rescue “the idea of giving dreams an ontological hierarchy and a material degree of existence,” as highlighted to Télam at the time of the Argentine premiere of the film, on September 28.
“I extracted from the book the idea of the fugitives, beings who inhabit dreams, who escape from them and seek to cross the fence that separates the dream world and the waking world to incarnate. The novel is very different, much more gruesome and terrifying , but it was the inspiration for the film, “explained Meta in an interview with Télam.
With a great protagonist of Érica Rivas, the cast of “El fugue” is completed by Nahuel Pérez Biscayart, Daniel Hendler, Guillermo Arengo, Agustín Rittano, Gabriela Pastor, Flor Dyszel and also has the special participation of Cecilia Roth and Mirta Busnelli.
The film deals with the story of Inés (Rivas), a singer who makes a living doing dubbing of movies and who, when she takes a vacation with her boyfriend, suffers a traumatic situation.
From that moment on, she will be overwhelmed as she begins to live day after day with nightmares that constantly intermingle with reality.
