Alec Baldwin spoke for the first time about the tragic accidental death of cameraman Halyna Hutchins. In a moving Twitter message, he offers her husband help.
“There are no words to describe my shock,” wrote Alec Baldwin on Twitter on Friday afternoon. The actor is tragically involved in the accidental death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. While filming, Baldwin fired a shot from a pistol. Although according to the current state of knowledge only blank cartridges were loaded, the shoot ended fatally for Hutchins. The weapon apparently exploded for an as yet unexplained cause. Parts hit them fatally. Baldwin has now commented on this for the first time.
The accident took the life of Halyna Hutchins, a wife, mother and deeply admired colleague, writes the 63-year-old. “I am fully cooperating with the police to clarify how this tragic incident came about,” promises Baldwin. He is also in contact with Hutchin’s husband. “I offer my help to him and her family. My heart is broken for her husband, her son, and everyone who knew and loved Halyna.”
The case is currently being investigated by the police. Whether the pistol was really only loaded with a blank cartridge or whether real ammunition was accidentally used is part of the investigation. A police spokesman confirmed that Baldwin pulled the trigger on the gun. The director Joel Souza was also injured in the accident that followed. He’s in the hospital. There is currently no more detailed information on his state of health.
Brandon Lee’s sister criticizes security measures
Fatal accidents involving firearms while filming are more common than expected. The reason for this is that mostly real weapons are used, which are only converted. The most famous accident of this kind happened in 1993 while filming “The Crow”. Brandon Lee, the son of actor Bruce Lee, was fatally wounded by a gun because the remains of a real cartridge were hidden in the barrel.
His sister, Shannon Lee, has meanwhile also commented on the tragic accidental death of Hutchins and expressed her condolences to the relatives. She also criticizes the security measures during filming. She claims: “Nobody should ever be killed by a gun that is fired on a film set.”
