They create an organization to spread the legacy of Cuchi Leguizamón

The Cuchi Leguizamón Cultural Legacy Foundation The official launch of his non-profit organization, which seeks to honor the memory of the outstanding composer and pianist, and continue his legacy in the dissemination of Argentine popular music and culture.

The meeting will be broadcast via streaming from the Facebook page of the Cuchi Leguizamón Archive (www.facebook.com/archivocuchi.leguizamon), and aims to publicize, with the greatest possible scope, the creation of the Cuchi Leguizamón Cultural Legacy Foundation and its annual work plan.

It proposes the edition and publication of books, records, the creation of a website, the production of audiovisual material, the presentation of agreements with the Secretary of Culture of Salta, the National University of Salta, the Library and Archive of the Province of Salta.

In addition, the presentation and call to participate in the Cuchi Leguizamón Archive project will be made.

The event will take place in the city of Salta and will be attended by three of the sons of the great “Cuchi” as speakers: Juan Martin Leguizamon (President of the Foundation), Dolphin Leguizamón (Secretary) and Luis Leguizamon (Treasurer), as well as the Da Capo Ensemble (four guitars), made up of Mariana Márquez, Nicolás Tolaba, Guillermo Rubelt and Oscar Sarapurawho will perform two songs from Leguizamón’s repertoire.

Gustavo “Cuchi” Leguizamón is one of the greatest exponents of Argentine popular music and its songs -among which are classics such as “Balderrama”, “Zamba de Lozano” and “La arenosa”– resonate to this day and continue to be a source of inspiration.

Born on September 29, 1917, “Cuchi”, the nickname with which his mother renamed him and which in Quechua means “pig”, was a talented and prolific man: he composed 800 works throughout his 83 years of life.

His music managed to break prejudices and be interpreted by references of all genres; She also won numerous awards, among the main ones are the National Endowment for the Arts Award and the Sadaic Award.

Without having formally studied music, he was a great teacher, and told in journalistic interviews how he began in music: “When I was a boy – he evoked – I got measles and to keep me still my dad gave me a harmonica. At home we had a jukebox and with it we listened to music by Rossini, Wagner and other classics. I distracted my measles by playing those songs on my harmonica and blowing like that, it’s how I got into serious music”.

He was a lawyer, rugby player, history and literature professor, and provincial deputy for the Movimiento Popular Salteño, during Illia’s presidency.
