Good corona policy? 50 percent say yes

On May 19 and July 1, the corona measures in Austria were significantly relaxed – an almost normal life found its way into the summer. At the same time, the federal government has regained some popularity with the corona policy.

50 percent of the Upper Austrians surveyed by the Spectra Institute at the end of June and beginning of July are of the opinion that the federal government has done the corona crisis management well so far. 41 percent say that they did it less well (rest: can’t say). The trust has “stabilized at a low level”, says Spectra boss Peter Bruckmüller. This is also due to the fact that the general mood among the population improved significantly in the second quarter. The economic recovery is playing a major role alongside the easing.

When Spectra asked this question for the first time in July 2020, the satisfaction with the federal government was significantly higher, 80 percent rated the crisis management as good at the time. In November it was 62 percent, in March only 47 percent. The state government is better off. 76 percent of respondents say that they have done their job well in the corona crisis so far, 15 percent see the opposite. Satisfaction with the country was asked twice beforehand. In November, 68 percent spoke of good crisis management, in March 63 percent.

According to Bruckmüller, the higher values are also due to the fact that, given the distribution of competencies, the state is less in focus than the federal government. Even if testing, vaccination and hospitals are strong regional issues. (az)
