Rapper Coolio died unexpectedly in September last year at the age of just 59. He collapsed in a friend’s bathroom and rescue workers tried to revive him for 45 minutes – to no avail. The assumption at the time: The musician may have died of a heart attack.

Now his longtime manager Jarez Posey has announced the actual cause of death: Coolio died of an overdose of fentanyl. His family only recently received the corresponding message from the coroner’s office.

In addition to the extremely dangerous opioid fentanyl, traces of crystal meth and heroin were also found in his body. In addition, his severe asthma and decades of cigarette consumption played a role in his death. That’s why his body was unable to defend itself, the report said. Manager Posey nevertheless stressed that his children will remember their father as a great man. Coolio was a father of six.

Initially, consistent media reports said that Coolio had died of natural causes. Both paramedics and family said no drugs were found at the scene of his accident and heart failure was the most likely cause of death.
