The Cheese Route it’s a mini tour ride weekend. is just 120 km from Federal Capitalspecifically in the Km 126. Route 5. And offers to spend a different dayaway from the city and enjoying the nature.

The Cheese Route: how did the tour come about?

The Route arose in 2008 when a set of producers started with this project weekend mini tour which -according to the website- “is aimed at all those people who like travel around our country and try the best products of our land”.

It is made up of four establishments: Cabaña Piedras Blancas, Fermier, Il Mirtilo and Suipacha Cheeses. In general, they produce goat milk and elaborate artisan cheeses goat, cow and sheep milk. In addition to Reblochon, Brie, Camembert, Raclette, Goya and Danbo cheese. They are also engaged in planting blueberries, blackberries and raspberries. Not counting what they offer salami, sweets and wild boar preserves.

The Cheese Route: tours and guided tours

There are several options when doing this tour, you can even build your own tour. Get to know the three establishments -currently in operation- that you will visit along the Route:

Cabins Piedras Blancas

The company is engaged in the production of goat milk already the elaboration of Artisanal goat, cow and sheep milk cheeses. Offers guided tours with prior reservationwhich are held every day, except Wednesdays, and last approximately 75 minutes.

It consists of a route which begins with an institutional video in the microcinema, which shows what a day at the factory is like and the production process. Then it goes to the tasting of varieties of cheeses, accompanied by a glass of water or wine, of your choice, plus the explanatory talk. Finally, visit the goat penwhich is the only activity that is suspended due to rain.

  • Value per person: $2,500. Children from 6 to 12 years old pay $1,250.

Il mirtilo

Located in the heart of the call Wavy Pampasthe establishment is dedicated to the plantation of blueberries, blackberries and raspberries. Offers guided tours with prior reservation, which is open to the public on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays. The tours take place at different times (at 11, 14 and 16).

The visit consists of a plantation tour accompanied by a explanation on production -care processes and harvesting of the fruits- and then a product tasting. Notably the harvest is over.

Suipacha cheeses

under the slogan “The Craft Boutique”the establishment is dedicated to the sale of cheeses -mostly made in Suipacha– and gourmet products, such as salami, sweets, wild boar preserves and blueberries. It also offers regional products made by neighboring entrepreneurs, from caramel cookies, chacinados, jams and pickles. You can also enter its internal room and taste a choppedaccompanied by drinks and bread from a wood oven.

After the pandemic, they decided to offer tasting experiences to groups of more than 10 people so that -according to the organization- “they can enjoy other different cheeses to those that the local factories offer and that the visit to the Cheese Route be more comprehensive”. Everything is accompanied by a coffee and a explanatory talk to know the origins of the cheese and the town. They are open every day from 8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.

The Guided visits they find each other suspended for works, but the establishment -in operation- is part of the tour. Meanwhile the public sale standlocated at the entrance of the place, is open every day from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. There they sell -as they are called- their “special cheeses”made with pure dairy milk, no preservatives or additives: cheese Reblochon Brie, camembert, raclette, Goya and danboamong others.

Tour to your liking

you can put together a custom plan with your family either friends and visit all the establishments. The groups must be small (no more than 20 to 25 people) and will receive the personalized attention of the exhibitor and/or owner responsible for each place. It is requested on the website of The Cheese Route.

How to get to Suipacha?

To reach the destination, from Buenos Aires and in caryou should take the West Access Highway/RN 7 and then the Highway Luján-Bragado/RN 5. the journey takes less than two hours.

The town has almost 10 thousand inhabitantsand originated from a group of basque immigrants who began to settle in the fields of the area and devoted themselves to the milk production.
