Ridley will play her character, Rey, in a story set 15 years after the events of the 2019 film “The Rise of Skywalker.”. The next film will focus on the rebuilding the New Jedi Order and the powers that seek to bring it downDisney said.

Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy announced the new projects in London at the annual Star Wars Celebration convention, where the actress took the stage to confirm her return to the franchise.
Disney bought Star Wars production company Lucasfilm in 2012 for $4 billion and released three films between 2015 and 2019, as well as several television series on its Disney+ app.
The company had put new “Star Wars” movies on hiatus after “The Rise of Skywalker.” A film that was due to be released this year, “Rogue Squadron,” was scrapped, as were others that had been in development.
The second of the three upcoming films will go back in time to tell the story of the first Jedi to wield the Force, Kennedy said.
The third will be set in the present and will narrate the war escalation between the Imperial Remnant and the fledgling New Republic. It will be directed by Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau, the team behind the popular Star Wars television series “The Mandalorian.”
No release dates have been announced for the films.
