Music fans spent more time listening to songs during the pandemic

The study “Committed to music 2021”, described by IFPI as the largest of its kind, is based on the opinions of 43,000 music fans in 21 countries.

“The analysis found that fans are not only listening to more music, but also are taking advantage of opportunities to participate in new musical experiences, dynamic and immersive “, said the executive director of IFPI, Frances Moore, in the report.

“Driven by investment from record labels, the incredible abundance and growth of music licensed for streaming services is driving this commitment (…) Additionally, music has brought fans comfort and healing in these challenging times “, added.

Fans have turned to streaming for autonomy and choice, and music listening time through subscription audio streaming increased by 51%, according to the study, while 68% of respondents said they searched for specific songs more than once a week.

About 87% said music lifted their spirits during the pandemic, while 68% of 16-19 year olds said that the new releases of their favorite singers calmed them during the pandemic.

Highlighting the problem of unlicensed music, nearly one in three people surveyed, or 29% said they had used illegal or unlicensed listening methods or download songs.
