Navarro – Las Marianas

The town of Navarro is located about 130 km from the City of Buenos Aires and has the particularity of being a place with nature and tradition.
What to do in Navarro?
If you are interested in history, you can visit the Alfredo Sabaté Historical Museum, the replica of the San Lorenzo fort, the railway museum in the old Trocha station and Dorrego Park, where the governor of Buenos Aires, Manuel Dorrego, was shot.
In addition, they can learn part of the history of the famous gaucho, Juan Moreira and the town’s grocery store.
If you prefer sports or nature, there is the Aeroclub for baptism flights, the lagoon with its campsite for water sports and a good picnic. There are also motocross and ATV tracks.
There are walking and biking trails around the lagoon, which can be a good idea for sunset.
In Navarro: Juan Moreira, old warehouses and history you can read some of the history of this gaucho and our experience in the city.
Very close to Navarro is a small Buenos Aires town of a few blocks, ideal for a round at snack time. Las Marianas is a town and you will see it with a simple walk. We share our experiences in Las Marianas, an escape to the past.
Carlos Keen

Like most of the towns in Buenos Aires, Carlos Keen was born from the construction of the railway and its station. It is a very small town, with its main square, its church and four paved roads, which is located only 75 km from the City of Buenos Aires.
In recent years, several gastronomic ventures and others related to rural tourism have been opened, which every weekend receive more and more visitors. In addition to visiting some of the restaurants, they can:
- tour the Rural Museum,
- visit the artisan fair that takes place on weekends in the old train station,
- ride a bike (if you go to Carlos Keen with children it is ideal to bring bicycles),
- do some baptism flight,
- a horseback ride, a sulki ride or
- Get to know the Martín Fierro Criollo Circle for a dressage or folklore show.
Of course, everything depends on the tastes of each family.
Because of all these activities, Carlos Keen is a good option for a weekend getaway in the province of Buenos Aires.
Where to eat in Carlos Keen?
The place we recommend, because there were several friends (we owe each other a visit) is María Gracia, because in addition to having a free fork and fried cakes for the afternoon, it has many CHILDREN’S GAMES, a large park and one can stay until 7 in the late.
How to get to Carlos Keen?
Carlos Keen is very close to Luján (a city that can be traveled on the way), so by car you have to follow the GPS indications.
If you don’t have a car, you can take the train from Once to Luján station and, from there, the bus (colectivo) 503 to Carlos Keen.
Lobos Lagoon

Another getaway very close to Buenos Aires is Lobos and its lagoon. Among the activities that can be done in the Laguna de Lobos are:
- sport fishing.
- kayak or boat navigation
- kitesurf
- hiking in its surroundings.
- flora and fauna watching
In addition to the lagoon, in Lobos you can do the so-called rural tourism, either to spend the day or even one night. Rural tourism includes horseback riding, traditional dance shows, workshops where farm products are made, visits to old warehouses, etc.
And for the more adventurous, they can go skydiving and baptism flights.
Of course, there is also a tour of the historical case of the town.
Uribelarrea

The town of Uribelarrea is one of the last to join the gastronomy scene and weekend getaway from Buenos Aires.
Unlike the first ones we mentioned, most restaurants do not offer free fork, although they also have good options. One of the places we recommend is Pueblo Escondido, where in addition to eating in a very cozy place, you will be able to buy some delicious products in your store to take home.
If you like field chores or if your little ones want to see goats and learn how they are milked, they can visit the Goñi Valley, a place where delicious and abundant breakfasts, lunches and snacks are served and the activity is accompanied by visits guided. The children will be able to feed the goats and you will be able to buy delicious homemade products, such as goat cheese and dulce de leche.
Chascomús Lagoon

The city of Chascomús is located about 120 km from the City of Buenos Aires and, although it is not a rural town, I decided to add it to this list because it is ideal for a weekend getaway in Buenos Aires.
One of its main attractions is the Chascomús Lagoon and the busiest activity is to go around the 30 km of the lagoon by bicycle or on foot.
In addition, there are historical sites to visit, museums and a well-preserved old town. In a weekend getaway to Chascomús you can read in much more detail everything that can be done in the city.
