He cannes film festival confirmed that the short film Strange Way Of Life of Pedro Almodovar will premiere worldwide in its next 76th edition, from May 16 to 27.
The western filmed in the south of Spain stars ethan hawke and Peter Pascal and it is the filmmaker’s second experience in English, after The Human Voice in 2020.
The film was widely expected to screen in Cannes after the director told the singer-songwriter Dua Lipa that he hoped would premiere at the festival in an interview for his podcast At Your Service in january.
Other titles already confirmed by the festival include the opening film Jeanne-du-Barry of Maiwennstarring Johnny Depp, The Killers Of The Flower Moon of Martin Scorsese and Indiana Jones And The Dial Of Destiny.
to the projection of Strange Way Of Life de Almodóvar will be followed by a conversation with the director and the production team.
The play revolves around a reunion between a sheriff and a rancher who knew each other in a previous life.
The synopsis provided by Almodóvar and published by the festival reads: “A man rides a horse through the desert that separates him from Bitter Creek. He comes to visit Sheriff Jake. Twenty-five years earlier, both the sheriff and Silva, the rancher who rides out to meet him, worked together as hitmen. Silva visits him with the excuse of meeting his childhood friend again, and they actually celebrate their meeting, but the next morning Sheriff Jake tells him that the reason for his trip is not to remember his old friendship. ”
“I shouldn’t say more so as not to reveal all the surprises in the script”, adds the director. “The strange way of life to which the title refers alludes to the famous fado by Amalia Rodrigues, whose lyrics suggest that there is no more strange existence than the one that is lived by turning one’s back on one’s own desires.”
The film is produced by Agustín Almodóvar with Esther García as executive producer and Bárbara Peiró, Diego Pajuelo and Anthony Vaccarello’s Saint Laurent as associate producers.
Other cast members alongside Hawke and Pascal include Pedro Casablanc, Manu Ríos, George Steane, José Condessa, Jason Fernández, Sara Sálamo, Ohiana Cueto and Daniela Medina.
