Certainly one of the most beautiful sentences women will ever hear: Diets can have a negative effect on sex. Happy too early, but also overweight – a stalemate?

Sexual desire does not consist solely of infatuation and an attractive appearance of the other person. The libido is activated by various hormonal and biochemical processes. One important factor is diet.

It determines a large part of our physical well-being and provides the body with the necessary nutrients. However, if it receives too few nutrients or the wrong ones, then some processes go into a kind of emergency or economy mode. A process that is often triggered by a diet, especially if the nutrition plan was not put together consciously or if it is a matter of radicalism.

When our body switches to an economical “survival mode”, it not only affects our nutrient balance, our psyche also suffers. A diet and thus a ban on certain foods is often accompanied by a bad mood, exhaustion and tiredness. Not a good starting position to develop a desire for a little time.

This does not mean that we should all only consume pizza, pasta and chocolate, obesity has also been shown to have a negative impact on our sexuality. Researcher Gary Wenk explains in Psychology Today magazine that obesity can even cause physical problems during sex: “Obesity leads to excessive inflammation throughout the body, which leads to a reduction in the level of nitric oxide in the blood Genitourinary system reduced, resulting in reduced blood flow to the clitoris and reduced sexual pleasure.”

According to the researcher, however, if someone changes their diet to a healthy and balanced diet, does sports and reduces their weight, their sexual sensitivity can also improve again. Arginine promotes the formation of nitric oxide and can be used to correct erectile dysfunction. However, research to date has focused primarily on men and erectile dysfunction. Female sexuality is less researched in many areas.
