The much applauded productions “Catch me if you can” and “Natascha, Pierre and the great comet of 1812” will be followed on Friday by “Fun Home” in the black box of the music theater. “This musical works against all musical clichés. It’s about working through family secrets, and there will be a lot of laughing and crying,” summarizes Nicole Claudia Weber, who is in charge of the production. “Fun Home” is based on an autobiographical graphic novel by American actress Alison Bechdel. In it, the author reflects on growing up in the family’s own funeral home (“Funeral Home”). It is growing up in what appears to be a perfect family picture – but behind the facade it is threateningly crumbling. The parents’ marriage is fraught with problems, the bisexual father commits suicide, and in between Alison gives vent to her sexual orientation.

Three “Alisons”

“Fun Home” by Jeanine Tesori (music) and Lisa Kron (lyrics) won five Tonys in 2015, including Best Musical. The role of Alison is cast three times: Sanne Mieloo plays the retrospective woman, Celina Dos Santos the young Alison. Rosa Gruber and Helena Unger take turns playing the big role of little Alison. Musical Director: Juheon Han.

Musical: “Fun Home”, German-language premiere in the BlackBox of the Linz Music Theater. Premiere: April 12, tickets at landestheater-linz.at
