Hyundai works driver Craig Breen is dead. The Irishman died on Thursday at the age of 33 in an accident during a test event for the World Championship race in Croatia. This was announced by his team. The incident happened around noon, the exact circumstances have not yet been clarified. As “Auto Motor & Sport” reports, citing eyewitnesses, Breen is said to have left the track and rammed a post. Pictures of the wreck of his car at the scene of the accident confirm this representation. Hyundai Motorsport has not yet provided any further information. Breen’s co-driver James Fulton was reportedly unharmed.

After Craig Breen’s death: Fia offers condolences

Breen has been active in rallying since 2009. He contested 82 World Championship races and made it onto the podium nine times. The son of a former Irish rally champion once started out in karting. FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem expressed his condolences: “Our thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones and the entire rally community at this difficult time.” The Rally Croatia will take place next week from April 20th to 23rd.
