In the original novel by Bram Stoker, during the seventh chapter the Demeter was a Russian sailing ship hired by Dracula to transport him from his home country, Wallachia, to England. The crew is unaware that they are transporting a vampire lord, but as the Demeter’s sailors begin to disappear one by one, the captain becomes convinced that an evil force lurks on the ship.

Dastmalchian plays Wojchek, the Demeter’s first mate, while Botet brings the legendary monster to life. Øvredal’s film will delve into the atmosphere of fear and paranoia that permeates the ship once its crew begins to disappear.

The Last Voyage of the Demeter hits theaters in August.
