Woody Harrelson & Matthew McConaughey: Are the ‘True Detective’ stars half brothers?

Woody Harrelson & Matthew McConaughey: Are the ‘True Detective’ stars half brothers?

Harrelson and McConaughey are a dream team and privately best friends. Now the two are speculating about a possible blood relationship.

In the first season of the crime series “True Detective” Woody Harrelson (61) and Matthew McConaughey (53) were on the road as an investigative duo. Now they extend their detective investigations to their private lives.

Did your parents have an affair?

Like McConaughey, the two friends are prompted by mysterious statements from his mother.

There he said: “A few years ago we were sitting around in Greece and talking about how close we are to each other and our families. My mother was there and she was like, ‘Woody, I knew your father’. Everyone noticed the break that left her after ‘knew’.” The way she pronounced the word “knew” was extremely “charged”.

After that memorable evening, he and Woody did “a little math” and concluded that their parents’ affair might have been, at least in theory, possible. In 1968, a year before McConaughey was born, Harrelson’s father had left the family. At the same time, McConaughey’s mother also divorced her husband.

“Our families often confuse us”

As the actor reported with a certain wink, he and Harrelson have always been puzzled by how similar they look. “Where I start and he ends, and where he begins and I end, that’s always been a blurred line. My kids call him Uncle Woody. His kids call me Uncle Matthew. Our families often confuse us.”

His friend and potential half-brother then suggested a joint DNA test. However, he himself is skeptical about this project: “It’s a little easier for Woody to say: ‘Come on, let’s do a DNA test,'” he said. “It’s a bit more difficult for me because he’s asking me to take a chance and say, ‘Wait a minute, you’re telling me that maybe my dad isn’t my dad after believing in it for 53 years?'” .

Joint comedy series “Brother from Another Mother”

Until the two private investigators get to the bottom of the truth, their fans can look forward to Harrelson and McConaughey’s latest project together: In the comedy series “Brother from Another Mother” produced by Apple TV+, the two play fictional versions of themselves, their Friendship is put to the test when their families move to a Texas ranch together. As McConaughey emphasized in the interview, this is “a series about our families that is based on the truth”.

A start date for the series has not yet been set.
