The actor who played Frodo in Peter Jackson’s trilogy referred to the Warner Bros. announcement about new films based on Tolkien’s work.
Elijah Wood revealed that he is “fascinated” and “surprised” by the development of multiple new movies of “The Lord of the rings” by Warner Bros. The studio announced the plan in February. Wood, of course, played the hobbit Frodo in the original trilogy of Peter Jackson which grossed $2.9 billion worldwide and remains one of fantasy cinema’s greatest achievements.

“I am fascinated and I am excited. I hope it’s good”Wood recently told the magazine G.Q. about the new movies. “I’m surprised, I don’t know why I’m surprised because of course there would be more movies.”

“Obviously at the core of that is the desire to make a lot of money,” Wood continued. “It’s not like a lot of executives say, ‘Let’s make some really amazing art.’ And, again, without envying anyone because, of course, it is trade. But great art can come from trade. So those two things are not mutually exclusive.”
Wood emphasized that Peter Jackson’s “Lord of the Rings” trilogy “didn’t get out of that place,” referring to the trade.
“It arose from the passion for these books and from wanting to see them realized”Wood said. “And I hope that’s ultimately what drives everything forward with whatever these later movies are. I just hope it’s the same fundamental motivating factor, every time they hire a writer and filmmaker, that it’s with a reverence for Tolkien’s material and an enthusiasm to explore it.”
Everything that is confirmed about Warner Bros. new films of “The Lord of the rings” is that there will be “multiple” movies based on the books of J.R.R. Tolkien. The studio provided no additional information, meaning no one knows if the story will continue before, after, or during Jackson’s original trilogy.
In a statement to the portal VarietyJackson and his main collaborators of “The Lord of the Rings”, Fran Walsh and Philippa BoyensThey previously said that Warner Bros. “kept us informed every step of the way” regarding new “Lord of the Rings” movies. Jackson was behind all three “Rings” films and all three “The Hobbit” films, and won the best director Oscar for “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.”
“We hope to continue talking with [el estudio] to hear his views on moving the franchise forward,” Jackson, Walsh and Boyens added in their statement.
