Cornelia Funke believes that if you don’t know nature, you won’t fight to preserve it. Despite disturbing studies, the bestselling author is hopeful.
The bestselling author Cornelia Funke (64) thinks it is important for children to have contact with nature. “My greatest concern is that children who are afraid of nature because they no longer know it will certainly not fight to preserve it,” said the children’s book author of the “Augsburger Allgemeine”. “There are very disturbing studies of what it does to them when they barely have the open sky above them and are only supervised in the wild things of this world.”
Funke’s new children’s book “The Green Kingdom” is about a girl who, through letters from a blind girl, not only discovers the exciting world of plants, but also the neighborhood. Most recently, the writer, who now lives in Italy, published new parts of “Dragon Rider” and “Reckless”.
“There are animals and plants that are worth fighting for. Even if the battle may be lost one day, we must try,” said the author. But she herself is hopeful. “I can’t change the fact that I always have hope.”
