Artificial intelligence and employment: existential crisis?

The massive arrival of the first applications based on artificial intelligence it has aroused and will continue to arouse different sensations and reactions in people. One of the biggest concerns is related to the fear and uncertainty generated by the possibility of losing a job, the need for new skills or unexpected changes in jobs.

Despite this fear, we know that the development of these technologies is imminent and unstoppable, as is their application and usefulness in the world of work. It is important to recognize that these changes can develop minor psychophysical symptoms up to states of panic attacks, stress spikes, depressive states in people, especially if they are not prepared to adapt to them. Therefore, it is essential to start preparing now for the challenges that will come in the future.

How can we face this change? This is everyone’s responsibility, and we must work together with strategies both for people towards their own personal and work lives, as well as for organizations towards their collaborators and governments towards society.

In relation to people, in order to face the vulnerability they may feel in this new environment, it is important to start recycling what they have learned, be more aware, truly discover who they are, enhance their abilities and make their work profile more flexible.

It must be understood if there are aspects such as mandates, limiting beliefs, unbalanced emotions, basic pathologies or personal traumas that come into play in the face of these changes and that must be addressed by separating the role of the person, so that they stop turning work into a problem. scenario of projections of problems that are personal.

It is also necessary to consider whether it is a need for reskilling, that is, to carry out a deep professional recycling based on the new requirements and skills (such as critical thinking, creativity, problem solving, among others) of a market. demanding, to enhance the job profile and achieve an adaptation of their talent to the maximum potential, which from our consultancy Works Better we call Sustainable Talent.

In my case, I have been working for 15 years with my own method called “TARASIEWICZ® METHOD”already successfully applied to hundreds of people, which allows us to explore from the psychology of work, job coaching and consulting in the organizational world the “Work Self” and the “360° Self” (which includes all the edges of the life) of the consultant, through what we call “mental chiropractic”, a new way of accommodating and repositioning thoughts, emotions and actions, achieving a true “labor alchemy”, a real transformation tailored to each person. Through this method, the person redefines and balances their I’s, successfully managing to understand and create a new sense of their personal and work reality.

Regarding companies and organizations, they must work oriented towards collaborators. Reassessing processes, developing wellness policies and strategies, conducting training, creating mixed teams combined with these new technologies, are just some of the actions that can be carried out in order to accompany the integration of these technologies on a day-to-day basis.

For its part, the government also plays a fundamental role, since new policies will be necessary in line with the new workplaces that will be created, which must range from data protection to limiting the possibility of mass layoffs.

Finally, we must understand that the important thing is to be proactively prepared for this new environment that is beginning to be created. And given the fear or anxiety that changes generate, think about this mantra “I have me”, a concept that I created to remind myself and remind us that ever since we were children we were able to get ahead of complex situations, from the separation of our parents or partners, economic problems, even a pandemic! it is one that could and can face in the different critical situations that arise. If it’s about new technologies, let’s ask our mothers or grandmothers, who took the shorthand course, what they thought when the first PC appeared.
