The Schäxpir International Youth Theater Festival traces the magic of theater for the twelfth time from June 14th to 24th – and this time makes it its motto “Magic – the history of stories”: “It’s about the powers, feelings and possibilities that exist between the supposedly fixed pillars of reality”, the management trio Anja Lang (festival management), Sara Ostertag and Julia Ransmayr (both artistic management) invites you to 30 productions, including nine world premieres and eleven Austrian premieres, which also invite innovative theater formats. As interns in the weird everyday office life, visitors can rebel in the interactive world premiere “Putsch – an immersive theater game” (from 14 years) – a cooperation of “The Planetary Party Principle”, Landestheater Linz and La Strada Graz.

Special venues like a ship

Using their own smartphones, however, the audience becomes part of the chat forums in the play “Rabbit Hole” by the Dutch De Toneelmakerij (from 12 years) and can comment on conspiracy theories.

Among the 20 venues (one of them in Peuerbach) there are many special venues: On four evenings on board the saloon ship “Fräulein Florentine”, the independent Linz collective “Late Shift” asks, among other things, with a film theater that is shown from the ship, but also in projections from the shore on “longing journeys”.

In the glass cube at OK-Platz, the film installation “Men in Trouble” traces gender roles as a grotesque talk show (from 14 years).

The Linz venues are also represented with world premieres at Schäxpir: The Children’s Theater launches “The Conference of Animals – An Animal Rescue Operation for All Children of the Earth” (from 8 years, directed by Henry Mason). The Theater Phönix takes on problems and their solution in cooperation with the Schauwerk, in “From Zero to Zack Prack! oder Heroisch in diekata” (from 14 years).

Bruckner University students ask questions about a norm that may not even exist with “Gute Zeiten, Gute Zeiten oder Der Pickel als Trampoline” (from the age of 16). The BRG Fadingerstraße is also active at the festival, which it accompanies with its radio FRECH. As a cooperation with the Communale OÖ, the play “Anna” (from 10 years) invites to Peuerbach and “Time Play” (from 5 years) to the forecourt of Linz Central Station. (cash)
