Offer: Rod Stewart wants to pay for preventive scans again

The singer would like to financially take over the MRI examinations of some patients who are suspected of having cancer. But his suggestion falls on deaf ears.

Pop star Rod Stewart (78) wants to pay for preventive scans for patients suspected of cancer again and has sharply criticized those responsible for the British healthcare system. He didn’t get any answers to his offers, said the Briton (“The First Cut is the Deepest”) of the PA news agency.

“It’s like banging your head against a brick wall.” MRI scans are urgently needed. “I’m willing to pay for it. 30 or 40 in a couple of hours, but there’s nobody to do it on my behalf,” said Sir Rod.

The musician also showed sympathy for strikes in the national health service NHS. In winter, tens of thousands of workers repeatedly walked out in protest at low wages and poor working conditions. Resident doctors have recently gone on strike. “I’m definitely on their side, I agree with them, they come first,” Stewart said. Waiting times in the NHS remain at high levels.

The musician had already paid for several preventive scans in February after surprisingly announcing the action live on television out of frustration with the conservative British government. Stewart has battled cancer himself.
