Opened in 1923, It was the first skyscraper in Latin America and has a “twin” in Uruguay. It is an indispensable piece of Buenos Aires architecture, with an aspect that broke all the molds of the time.
Since its inception, the Barolo drew attention. The building can be categorized within the “art nouveau” movement, but it has details of Gothic and Neo-Romantic architecture and also had innovative technological advances.
He pioneered the artistic use of reinforced concrete, a very modern method for its time. The dome, for its part, is inspired by the Rajarani Bhubaneshvar temple in India and has an urban lighthouse, valued in 2010, which turns on and rotates daily, illuminating the city. It was the first “Latin skyscraper”, this is how its creator, the architect, summed up its eclectic style Mario Palanti.
The Barolo Palace is unique. And to celebrate it, the Centennial Eventsa cycle of tributes on the eve of its 100th anniversary.
During 2022 the celebrations had music as the protagonist of each meeting. The Pasaje Barolo was filled with an enthusiastic audience that applauded the repertoires performed by the “Symphonic Orchestra of the Manuel de Falla Superior Conservatory”, the “Wind Ensemble of the Instituto Superior del Teatro Colón”, the tango group “Del Bajo Quinteto” and the ECA “Avellaneda Choral Rehearsal”.
2023 – An exhibition “on the way to the centenary”
On Thursday, April 27, the Exhibition will be exhibited in the central hall of the building. “LA DIVINA: Hell, Purgatory and Paradise” by Antonio Giardinieri.
This painter, with a renowned career in our country and artistically educated in Italy, also has the distinction of belonging to a lineage of artists. His training has been self-taught and amazing.
His paintings are characterized by a precise handling of color, the use of transparencies and the superimposition of planes that generates a playful palette of lights/shadows.
It is corroborated in the brushstrokes of giardineri that the perception of color is a psychological and cultural phenomenon because one can glimpse, in his dreamlike paintings, the deep study he carried out on Renaissance painters when he visited the lands of Dante.
Antonio expresses, in this exhibition, the unbreakable bond he forged with Barolo over the years. The shapes and textures of the mythical building were impregnating his brush and, from his art studio located in the Palace, he reinterpreted the symbology of the Italian poem.
The Curator of “LA DIVINA” is the Arch. Luis Rarefice – Director of the Estudio Sur Gallery of the Province of Santa Fe- who ranks the work describing it as provocative of emotions and impressive, since it generates a deep connection with the interior atmospheres that reveal Hell, Purgatory and Paradise that inhabits us.
“Together with Virgilio and Beatriz we are timeless companions on the path of wise nuances and forms that the artist manifests. The woman, the nude, the drama, a disturbing landscape arising from color and light are typical scenes of surrealism and metaphysics. From there emanate, the exposed images, an aura of reverie that timeless the scene and indeterminates the place, allowing to see a spectacle that crosses time and consciousness.”
The exhibition will begin at 7:00 p.m. with a lecture on the different analogies that the Palacio Barolo has with “The Divine Comedy.” then it will be the same Antonio Giardinieri Whoever takes the floor to express what it meant to recreate Dante’s greatest work with his brushes, immersed in an architecture inspired by poetry.
Admission is free and free, limited to the Barolo Passage and will end at 10 pm.
Spaces are limited, by order of arrival and the organizers reserve the right of admission and permanence.
