The ceremony will take place on July 27 at 11 a.m. in the Felsenreitschule. Intendant Markus Hinterhäuser said on Wednesday: “He is not only one of the most remarkable scientists of our time, he is also a gifted storyteller who knows how to convey complex phenomena that are essential for our time in the most impressive way”.

“He asks questions about the nature of truth and reality and about what reality actually is. He examines our conception of space and time with the fascinating instruments of science.” In view of the diverse challenges of the present, the festival wants to go along with it Zeilinger “interrogate the world with the great works of art and question it with the help of the astonishing findings of science”.

Nobel Prize for discoveries in quantum physics

Born in Ried in 1945 Anton Zeilinger works on the fundamentals of quantum physics and has conducted numerous fundamental quantum physics experiments, some of which have become the foundations of a new information technology. Last year he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics “for experiments with entangled photons, demonstrating the violation of Bell’s inequalities and pioneering quantum information science”.

In addition to over 550 scientific publications, some of which have become seminal works Zeilinger also written two influential popular science books: Einstein’s Veil (2003) and Einstein’s Haunting (2005). The award-winning scientist is a member of numerous academies and holds several honorary professorships and honorary doctorates. He is currently Professor Emeritus at the University of Vienna and Senior Scientist at the Institute for Quantum Optics and Quantum Information in Vienna (IQOQI Vienna), where he is actively conducting research with his group of PhD students and post-docs.
