In the Marvel blockbuster “Eternals”, actress Angelina Jolie can be seen on the screen as the superhuman fighter Thena.
The 46-year-old American sees her future on the director’s chair. “I prefer to be behind the camera,” said Jolie of the German press agency in London. “When I work as a director, however, I have to be away from home longer.”
Most recently, she had to concentrate on the things at home, said the mother of six, who filed for divorce from Hollywood star Brad Pitt in 2016. “That’s why I haven’t been directing lately,” Jolie said. “I hope, however, that I will be able to direct again soon.”
A few years ago, the Oscar winner (“Crazy”) announced that she would say goodbye to acting. After “They Want Me Dead”, “Eternals” is now the second film with which she will hit the cinemas this year. One reason for taking on the role in the Marvel epic is diversity and inclusion, “and that we better represent the world we live in.”
She also wanted to film with the Korean action star Don Lee – he plays Thena’s close friend Gilgamesh in “Eternals” – of whom she has long been a fan. Last but not least, working with filmmaker Chloé Zhao (“Nomadland”) was appealing to her. “A wonderful director,” enthused Jolie. “So there were a lot of reasons to make this film.”
