Crime: Rapper shot: No new trial for Tory Lanez

The Canadian rapper has been found guilty of shooting Megan Thee Stallion. He faces more than 20 years in prison.

Canadian rapper Tory Lanez (30, “Say It”) was found guilty in December of shooting US rapper Megan Thee Stallion (28, “Body”). A judge in California has now rejected Lanez’s application for a new trial, as US media reported on Tuesday (local time). The musician’s lawyers had argued in vain that Lanez had not received a fair trial.

According to the public prosecutor, the sentence for the rapper will be announced in mid-June. Lanez, whose real name is Daystar Peterson, faces more than 20 years in prison.

The jury found the musician guilty of assault with a semi-automatic firearm, among other things. In the July 2020 incident in Hollywood, Lanez inflicted gunshot wounds on the musician’s feet after an argument. The case had caused a stir on social media.
