Assessment by Peter Urban: This is how Germany performs at the ESC

What are the chances for Germany in this year’s Eurovision Song Contest? Commentator Peter Urban gives his tip.

The final of the Eurovision Song Contest will take place on Saturday (May 13). For Germany, the dark rock band Lord Of The Lost is starting with the title “Blood & Glitter”. The magazine “Gala” from Peter Urban (75) wanted to know whether the contribution has what it takes to win. The ESC expert sees potential in the song, but considers an eighth place to be realistic.

Whether with or without Germany’s top ranking, Urban will have special memories of the 67th Eurovision Song Contest: After 25 years as a commentator, he will be accompanying the music competition for the last time on May 13th. He will celebrate his farewell “with a crying heart and a (hopefully good) glass of white wine,” he reveals in an interview with the magazine.

NDR honors Peter Urban with a portrait

Before that happens, Peter Urban will be honored on May 12 (8:15 p.m.) by NDR television with the portrait “Lena, Stefan Raab and Co. – Peter Urban’s 25 legendary ESC years”. According to the media release, the 74-year-old remembers “his greatest and most moving ESC moments – and how he experienced these moments, which have often found their way into the collective memory of Germans, and sees them today”.

The final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 will take place on Saturday, May 13th. Das Erste, ONE and show “ESC – Der Countdown” with Barbara Schöneberger (49) from 8:15 p.m. The live broadcast of the music event from Liverpool follows at 9 p.m. The subsequent “after show” rounds off the evening.
