Günter Wewel: TV star died at the age of 88

First he did an apprenticeship with the railway

Wewel was born in Arnsberg in the Sauerland in 1934. A career in the limelight was initially not planned: After school, he first completed an apprenticeship with the Deutsche Bundesbahn. He then studied classical music and opera in Dortmund and was a member of the ensemble at the Dortmund Opera for decades. He also appeared in other European countries and had 80 roles in his repertoire. He then gained even greater fame with his television appearances.

From 1989 to 2007 he was the presenter of the folk music and travel program “Kein Schöner Land”. He appeared in more than 150 episodes in the format produced by Saarländisches Rundfunk. In it he led his guests through the most beautiful landscapes in Europe and introduced people, landscapes and customs. This was accompanied by music ranging from folk to light classical. Married since 1959
