The federal SPÖ does not come to rest. After the Burgenland governor and SP country chief Hans Peter Doskozil compared the current social democracy with the Mitterlehner ÖVP at the time, federal party leader Pamela Rendi-Wagner accuses him of a “limping comparison”.
Apparently Doskozil wanted to imitate the now FPÖ chairman Herbert Kickl, who “bullied” against his predecessor Norbert Hofer.
Rendi-Wagner resolutely about her comrade: “But he fails to recognize that I am not Norbert Hofer and that I will not give way to this destructive kind.”
It was “a shame that this happened,” regretted Rendi-Wagner at a press conference in Vienna. You have seen Doskozil “as a former hope of our party”. But now he is damaging the goals of this “proud movement”.

In principle, the SPÖ is not comparable to the People’s Party, said Rendi-Wagner. It will never be like that. The SPÖ stands for a different image of man, therefore Doskozil’s comparison limps.
The Burgenlander did not let the criticism sit on him. In a broadcast on Friday lunchtime, he emphasized that he would not move away from the principle of “say what is”. “There are currently enough issues in Austria for an intact social democracy to deal with, from the economic and political consequences of the Corona crisis to unemployment. If it is more important for the party chairman to continue looking for the guilty party for the result of the vote She is at liberty to occupy herself with the party congress. ” But people would expect something else from the SPÖ than an exchange of personal sensitivities.

Doskozil: there is no self-reflection
Rendi-Wagner received only 75 percent approval at the party congress. He then called for self-reflection and explicitly warned against a personal discussion, says Doskozil: “Self-reflection includes honestly analyzing the status of the party. That much discussion culture must be possible, especially in the SPÖ.” His decision to withdraw from all federal party bodies has been confirmed once again. “I am concerned with a strong SPÖ where people know where they stand. There is currently not enough space in the federal party for this claim.”
The actual topic of the Rendi-Wagner press conference was her call for a voluntary, state-sponsored four-day week. That would be a sensible exit after short-time work, said the SP boss. (chk)
