Liverpool: Gottschalk complains about ESC – “Just don’t like us”

Germany ends up in last place at the ESC, again. Thomas Gottschalk reacts angrily – and already has an Urban successor up his sleeve.

Entertainment veteran Thomas Gottschalk sees Germany’s unpopularity as the reason for the poor performance after last place in the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC). “With all love, but we are now being fooled by the rest of Europe when it comes to the rating at the ESC. They just don’t like us,” wrote the 72-year-old on his Instagram account.

The rockers Lord Of The Lost were “far too nice too”. “If it’s heavy metal, then it has to rattle. There’s no use waving the rainbow flag either, but ARD simply has to turn off the money supply after all these bankruptcies. No gold, no glitter!”

On the other hand, Gottschalk advertised his colleague Constantin Zöller (36) as the new ESC commentator on ARD. “Peter Urban couldn’t have found a better exit, he did everything right,” Gottschalk wrote about Urban. The 75-year-old had his last assignment as an ARD commentator on Sunday night. “My sincere request to those responsible: Make Constantin Zöller from SWR his successor. I recognize radio talent when I hear it. He is one!” Gottschalk had a SWR3 radio show with Zöller in 2020/21.
