Actress: Kate Winslet fights against hate online

At the British Bafta TV awards ceremony, Kate Winslet wins two awards for the drama “I am Ruth”. She directed the film with her daughter Mia Threapleton.

British Oscar winner Kate Winslet has called for tougher penalties for hate speech and hate speech on social media. “People in power, people who can change something: Please, criminalize harmful content,” said the 47-year-old on Sunday evening at the British TV Awards ceremony.

“We want our kids back. We don’t want to lie awake in fear of our kids’ mental health,” Winslet said. She also called on young people to get help if they have problems using social media. “There is no shame in admitting that you need support,” she said.

Winslet plays a mother struggling with her child – played by Winslet’s daughter Mia Threapleton (22) – from the internet in the TV movie “I am Ruth”. “‘I am Ruth’ was made for parents and their children, for families who feel hostage to the dangers of the online world, for parents who would like to communicate with their teenagers but can’t anymore,” said Winslet. The film is also for young people who are addicted to social media “and their dark side,” the actress said.
