First came Charles III. and his wife Camilla visiting Germany. Now his younger brother, Prince Edward, follows. What the Duke of Edinburgh is up to.
Germany receives another visit from a member of the British royal family. Prince Edward (59) should be in Berlin early next week. The British Embassy in Berlin announced on Monday that he was coming to Berlin from May 22nd to 23rd to honor young people who had taken part in the youth program “Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award”.
Prince Edward – officially the Duke of Edinburgh – is the youngest brother of King Charles III. With Education Minister Bettina Stark-Watzinger (FDP) and her Berlin colleague Katharina Günther-Wünsch (CDU), he is to attend a school in the Wedding district.
The youth programme, which takes the duke’s title from its name, was originally founded by his father, Prince Philip, in the 1950s. Young people should get involved in different ways and set themselves goals.
Edward is to honor students who have successfully participated on Museum Island in the James Simon Gallery. In addition, he is to visit the Alexander House in Groß Glienicke in Potsdam, whose residents once fled to England from the National Socialists. There had already been a royal visit at the end of March – at that time Charles visited Germany before his coronation.
