SoHo sees unprecedented levels of LGBTIQ hostility

The SP member of the National Council and chairman of the SoHo Mario Lindner provides this finding in a report he has prepared. The rainbow flag was attacked particularly often. Lindner lists numerous cases of theft or even burns of the symbol of the community. This ranges from schools and churches to the headquarters of Wiener Wohnen. A so-called rainbow bench in Innsbruck was sunk in the Inn.

Attacks or threats from participants occurred on the fringes of the Pride parades in Vienna, Linz and Klagenfurt. Spit was reported, but also an attack with a bottle. At the final rally of the Rainbow Parade in Vienna, a “No Pride Month” banner was hung up.

The SoHo wants to implement its demands all the more. This includes a complete ban on discrimination based on sexual orientation, as well as gender identity, gender expression and gender characteristics in the Equal Treatment Act. Nobody should be thrown out of a pub for holding hands with someone of the same sex or for not getting an apartment “because the name on the birth certificate does not match the gender they lived”. In addition, they want a national action plan against hatred and discrimination as well as a nationwide competence center for LGBTIQ.
