Johnny Depp is being celebrated at the Cannes Film Festival these days. That’s why a friend of Amber Heard started a protest against the actor and the festival.
A year after the trial that moved the public, Johnny Depp emerges as the winner in Cannes. At the premiere of his new film “Jeanne du Barry” he was honored by the audience with standing ovations for minutes and it also looks as if Depp is back at the top of Hollywood business. Meanwhile, his ex-wife Amber Heard has fled to Spain, where she hopes to pursue a more private life. Your own Hollywood career is wasted.

The fact that the film festival welcomed the actor with open arms is particularly annoying for Heard’s fans and friends. Eve Barlow, journalist and close confidant of Amber Heard, vented her anger on Instagram. There she posted several photos, writing: “Cannes seems proud of its history of supporting rapists and abusers”, provided her post with the hashtag “Cannes You Not”.
In addition to a picture of Depp, she also published photos of Roman Polanski, Woody Allen, Harvey Weinstein, Gérard Depardieu and French director Luc Besson. Each of these men has been accused of abuse or rape in the past, with some cases resolved in court and others not. “Why does Cannes provide a platform for predators?” Barlow writes about the series.

She also released altered Jeanne du Barry movie posters featuring things Johnny Depp said during his marriage to Heard. One of them: “I gave you a damn headbutt, you don’t break your nose from that.” Another quote comes from a text message history between Depp and a friend, in which he said: “She’s begging for global humiliation – she’ll get it.”
Another text message released during the trial, which Barlow flaunted on her modified film poster: “I’ll f***** her cremated body afterwards to make sure she’s dead.”
Johnny Depp may be celebrated in Cannes – but some people will continue to remember what his ex-wife still accuses him of after losing in court. The hashtag “CannesYouNot” received a lot of encouragement on Twitter. Festival director Thierry Fremaux told Variety what he thought of the protests by Heard supporters.
“I don’t know about Johnny Depp’s image in the US. To tell the truth, there is only one rule in my life and that is freedom of thought, speech and action within a legal one frame.” Johnny Depp is an actor in a film, that counts for him. “If there’s one person in this world who doesn’t have the slightest interest in this very high-profile trial, it’s me. I don’t know what it’s about. I’m also interested in Johnny Depp as an actor,” Fremaux also said .
