After weeks of silence in the legal battle over allegations of abuse, Prince Andrew has spoken out in a motion. He accuses his alleged victim, Virginia Giuffre, of greed for profit.
In the abuse scandal surrounding Prince Andrew, the Duke of York moved a New York court to dismiss Virginia Giuffre’s (née Roberts) “unfounded” lawsuit.
Prince Andrew defends himself against Virginia Giuffre
Andrew was silent for weeks, spending most of the summer with his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, in Scotland. It was almost impossible for the other side to hand him the complaint – a legally necessary step for the proceedings to begin.
Now it becomes clear what Andrew thinks of Giuffre and her allegations. The now 38-year-old claims to have been “loaned” to Prince Andrew by the US sex offender Jeffrey Epstein at the age of 17 and is demanding compensation. Andrew’s lawyers have now asked the court to drop the lawsuit. More specifically, they accused Giuffre of making “another payday” out of their allegations against Epstein.
“Campaign Against Prince Andrew”
“Most people can only dream of receiving the sums of money Giuffre has raised over the years,” wrote attorney Andrew Brettler. “This is a compelling motive for Giuffre to continue filing frivolous lawsuits against people like Prince Andrew, whose tainted reputation is just the latest collateral damage from the Epstein scandal,” he said. And the royal team stressed that he had not sexually molested the woman.
“Epstein’s abuse of Giuffre does not justify her public campaign against Prince Andrew,” the motion read, adding: “Her pattern of filing a series of lawsuits against numerous high-ranking figures should no longer be tolerated as there are still many innocent people causes irreparable damage. “
Jeffrey Epstein was in contact with numerous politicians and celebrities. The entrepreneur’s former girlfriend, British Ghislaine Maxwell, pleaded innocent at a court hearing in New York in April. She is accused of having recruited minors for Epstein.
