15 months after the death of snowboarder Alex Pullin, his girlfriend gave birth to their daughter.
Last summer, professional snowboarder and world champion Alex Pullin was killed in a tragic accident while spear fishing near Palm Beach, Queensland. He was only 32 years old.
Now his partner Ellidy Vlug has granted a long-cherished wish. She gave birth to their daughter, Minnie Alex Pullin.
Alex Pullin’s partner gives birth to a daughter
“Our girl was born on October 25, 2021. Minnie Alex Pullin,” she wrote on Instagram for a photo of herself and the newborn baby. In June, Vlug stated that she and Pullin had long dreamed of becoming parents. Unfortunately, it didn’t work out. “We would have tried a few more months if he had been here. Then we would have gone 100 percent to IVF. That was the plan,” she said on the Darling, Shine podcast.
In fact, she now got pregnant thanks to in vitro fertilization. For this, sperm from her deceased friend were taken and implanted in her. “Your dad and I dreamed of you for years,” wrote Vlug on Instagram in June. “I’m honored to be part of this miracle that is bringing Chumpy back to this world,” she said, revealing that it was “the bittersweetest thing in the world and it’s a complete emotional roller coaster ride, but that’s my greatest gift”.
A little over a year after his death
Shortly after the birth, she shared a picture of her daughter and the couple’s dog on Instagram and wrote: “Chumpy’s daughters”. Chumpy was the snowboarder’s nickname.
In Germany it would not be possible to become a father posthumously in this way. The Embryo Protection Act justifies this by stating that the best interests of the child would be at risk in such a case.
