Cannes Film Festival 2023: glitter, color and colorful hair – the looks of the red carpet

From May 16th, it’s time to film again in Cannes. The annual film festival, which is one of the most important events in the film business, will run on the south coast of France from then until May 27th. Various films have been presented and prizes awarded at the event since 1946.

The film festival was originally launched as an initiative by French Minister of Education and Culture Jean Zay and has since grown into the most prestigious film festival in the world. Since 1955, the most important award has been the Palme d’Or, which is awarded to the best film in the competition. This year, 21 films are in the running for the honorary award.

The crème de la crème of the film industry

So the line-up of stars on the French Riviera couldn’t be higher at the moment. The crème de la crème literally grabs the door handle and the number of stars keeps increasing from day to day.

At the start of the event and the premiere of the historical film “Jeanne du Barry”, celebrities such as Catherine Zeta-Jones, Alesandra and Iris Law presented themselves on the red carpet in the most beautiful dresses by well-known designers. And numerous German celebrities were also on the guest list for the opening ceremony, including Matthias Schweighöfer together with his friend Ruby O. Fee and Veronica Ferres with her daughter Lily Krug. Every day new stars come to watch the premieres of the nominated films in the “Palais des Festivals et des Congrès”.

Palm of honor for Harrison Ford and Michael Douglas

A number of prizes have already been awarded. Hollywood legend Harrison Ford received a Palm of Honor for lifetime achievement on day three of the event. Michael Douglas, who attended the event with his wife Catherine Zeta-Jones and daughter Carys Zeta Douglas, received the award two days earlier.

In addition to the films, fashion and style are also top priorities. Unlike other film festivals, the event in Cannes is unofficially also considered a fashion event, because the motto is: see and be seen. In the past, the event has provided countless unique style moments. The most exciting looks in the history of the film festival include, for example, Princess Diana’s dress by Catherine Walker in 1987 or Madonna’s cone bra by Jean Paul Gaultier in 1991.
