While filming in the US state of New Mexico, a fatal shot was accidentally fired on October 21 when actor Alec Baldwin was rehearsing a weapon handed to him. The 42-year-old Halyna Hutchins and the director Joel Souza (48) were met on the set. The camerawoman died as a result of her injuries. Souza was able to leave the hospital the next day and was last seen wearing an arm sling outside his home in California.
Baldwin is said not to have known that the gun in his hand was loaded with live ammunition. Assistant director Dave Halls handed it to him and said it was a “cold weapon”. Halls later admitted to police that he hadn’t properly checked the gun. The authorities at the location of the movie set in New Mexico are currently investigating the case.
