The FBI classified the January 6 attack on the US Capitol as domestic terrorism – drastic measures followed. Now one of them is canceled again.
A good six months after supporters of the then US President Donald Trump stormed the Capitol, the inner protective fence around the parliamentary seat was dismantled.
US media reported on Saturday that the dismantling that began the day before could drag on for several days. An outer fence around the Capitol in Washington had already been dismantled in March.
Supporters of Trump, who had previously lost the election, forcibly entered the seat of the US Congress on January 6th. The Capitol Police then came under fire because the parliament’s security forces were unable to repel the attack. At least five people were killed in the riots, including a police officer. The FBI has classified the attack as domestic terrorism. In view of the attack, security measures had been tightened drastically.
