Delta on the advance: The number of corona infections has increased again compared to the previous day of the week. The seven-day incidence value also only knows one direction.
For the first time in around two weeks, the 7-day incidence in Germany climbed back above 6.0. According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) from Sunday morning, there were 6.2 new infections in seven days per 100,000 inhabitants (previous day: 5.8; previous week: 5.0).
745 new coronavirus infections within 24 hours
The health authorities in Germany reported 745 new corona infections to the RKI within one day. This is evident from the numbers from Sunday morning, which reflect the status of the RKI dashboard at 3.13 a.m. For comparison: a week ago the value was 559 infections.
According to the new information, six deaths were recorded across Germany within 24 hours. A week ago there were seven dead. The RKI has counted 3,736,165 detected infections with Sars-CoV-2 since the beginning of the pandemic. The actual total number is likely to be significantly higher, as many infections are not detected.
The RKI stated the number of those who had recovered at 3,634,400. The number of people who died with or with a proven Sars-CoV-2 infection rose to 91,231.
Even if the number of corona cases is currently low, the spread of the particularly contagious delta variant of the corona virus is cause for concern. On Wednesday, the RKI announced that the variant first identified in India is now responsible for more than 50 percent of all infections with the corona virus in Germany.
