Rebecca Mir: That was her first time in Cannes

“It’s a very special atmosphere every year,” enthuses Rebecca Mir about the Cannes Film Festival.

Walking the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival is a dream for many. Also for Rebecca Mir (31) the performance on the Croisette is something very special. “It’s a very special atmosphere every year,” enthuses the model and presenter, recalling her first time at an L’Oréal Paris event.

The 31-year-old has long been an old hand when it comes to the red carpet. In an interview, Mir reveals how complex the styling for the big appearance is and why critical voices about her appearance are now bouncing off her.

Can you still remember your first time in Cannes?

Rebecca Mir: It’s a very special atmosphere every year. But the first time Cannes was definitely exceptional! I had a lot of fun and met a lot of great, exciting people – for example many extraordinary and strong women at the Female Empowerment Dinner by L’Oréal Paris. Of course it was exciting to go to this big, international red carpet and then to be able to see a great film. So it was all so much fun.

How long does it take you to be perfectly styled for the big red carpet appearance?

Mir: It usually takes me about two hours with my hair and make-up artist, 1.5 hours of which is just for my hair. (laughs)

How does it feel when you walk the carpet in a dream gown at a big event like Cannes?

Mir: Of course it’s super beautiful and you also feel very glamorous to walk the red carpet in such a huge and pompous dress. You can’t wear that everywhere.

You can be seen on many red carpets and are always exposed to critical looks. How much do you take nasty comments about your looks?

Mir: I have to say that I’ve grown a thick skin and it actually bounces off me relatively well, but that’s not the case for everyone. Constructive criticism is absolutely fine, but body shaming is just wrong and not proper. I also don’t think people on the street would say such comments to my face.

How can prominent women contribute to a rethinking of beauty ideals or body awareness?

Mir: I think a rethinking takes place when you feel comfortable in your body and radiate it. And maybe not paying attention to what other people say and just listening to yourself, what you like, what you like and what you are satisfied with.

Do you sometimes struggle with self-doubt?

Mir: Yes, I think everyone has them, right? The most important thing is, of course, that when you have doubts, you can confide in your friends and family and become aware of your own worth again.

What is your advice to women who are uncomfortable with their bodies?

Mir: I think it’s important first of all whether you’re at peace with yourself and whether you’re feeling good mentally. This is important in order to become aware of your own insecurities and doubts and to be able to actively deal with these issues – the well-being in your own body comes after that for me. I also find that on social media in particular, people often follow accounts that actually put a lot of pressure on you and aren’t good for you. For reasons of self-protection, one should not hold this content against oneself in the first place. I’ve only watched content that I feel good about for a while now.

When do you feel your best?

Mir: I feel most beautiful in the sun, on the beach, with my family.
