Uschi Glas said goodbye to Peter Simonischek. In her tribute, she describes the actor as a “favorite person.”
Uschi Glas (79) found touching parting words for her colleague and friend Peter Simonischek (1946-2023). The Austrian died on May 29th in the night of May 30th at the age of 76 in Vienna. “When I got off the plane in Sweden on Tuesday, the news of your death reached me,” reports Glas. “It knocked the ground out from under my feet.” She was just “very, very sad that you left, because I know how much you loved life and your loved ones”.

When shooting the film “All the Happiness on Earth” together 20 years ago, the two came as colleagues and left as friends, the actress continues. Anyone who was allowed to shoot with Simonischek knows about the special feature. He gave the people on the set a temporary home with respect and warmth. “With you we lose a humble person. Far more than the great actor you remain with your works. […] Peter, you were a favorite person,” she adds. The actor was a giant in his “art” and could play anything. “If you had had a little more time for that … we miss you.”
Simonischek has been part of the ensemble of the renowned Vienna Burgtheater since 1999 and has been an honorary member since 2019. From 2002 to 2009 he embodied Jedermann at the Salzburg Festival. He became internationally known through the title role in Maren Ade’s (46) Oscar-nominated feature film “Toni Erdmann” (2016).
