The musician gave a last health update on March 15 – two weeks after he canceled his tour without replacement. In an Instagram video, Bieber showed that he can smile all over his face and move both sides of his face several months after becoming paralyzed.

The 29-year-old did not give an official statement about the cancellation of his tour in March, but it should be similar to that of September 2022 – even then Bieber canceled several concerts. After cutting short his North American tour in June 2022 as a result of his facial paralysis, Bieber wanted to be back on stage, he said in a statement. “After resting and talking to my doctors, family and team, it was off to Europe to continue the tour,” said Bieber. “I performed six live shows there, but they took a toll on me.” On September 6, 2022, Bieber performed at the “Rock in Rio” festival in Brazil, after which the final collapse followed: “When I left the stage, exhaustion came over me and I realized that I have to put my health first.” He needs time to recover and heal.

Long history of illness

Taking to Instagram, he explained, “While a lot of people say Justin Bieber looks bad, is on meth, etc., they don’t realize that I was recently diagnosed with Lyme disease.” He further described that the illness had also affected his psyche. He would have fought a lot, he revealed. Doctors also diagnosed him with glandular fever, he said in the YouTube documentary “Justin Bieber: Next Chapter”.

In the same documentary, Bieber also opened up again about his mental health and periods of depression in his life. “Constant pain” would have plagued him since his breakthrough. Even the pressure of a world tour had become too much for him: in 2017 he had to cancel 14 concerts of his “Purpose” world tour because of his depression.
