Rapper Tupac Shakur (1971-1996) is to be honored posthumously in Hollywood. The 2758th star plaque with his name on the famous “Walk of Fame” will be presented on June 7th, the awarding authorities announced on Wednesday (local time).
His sister Sekyiwa “Set” Shakur is scheduled to unveil the star. Guest speakers include US director Allen Hughes (“Broken City”), who is directing the new documentary series “Dear Mama: The Saga of Afeni and Tupac Shakur” about Tupac Shakur and his mother, the “Black Panther” activist Afeni Shakur, turned.
Tupac Shakur was a rapper, actor, activist, poet and revolutionary, according to the Walk of Fame statement. The artist is still part of the zeitgeist decades after his death. Shakur (“All Eyez on Me”) was one of the most successful rappers of the 90s. In 2017, the musician was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland (Ohio).
Tupac Shakur died at the age of 25
The hip-hop star, who grew up in poor conditions in New York, was at times involved in drug trafficking and other crimes, he was also imprisoned. As a teenager he moved to California with his family. There he worked, among other things, with the label Death Row Records, which is known for gangsta rap.
Shakur was shot dead in a Las Vegas street in 1996 under unclear circumstances at the age of 25. There were arguments between rival rappers on the east and west coasts.
