Kanye West is said to have snatched the phone from a paparazzi photographer. She is now suing the US rapper for damages.
A US photographer has sued rapper Kanye West for undisclosed damages over alleged assault. The musician caused her “great mental and emotional pain” as a result of the incident in January, plaintiff Nichol Lechmanik told journalists in Los Angeles on Thursday (local time).
According to Lechmanik, she took photos outside a sports center in Ventura County, California, while West and TV star Kim Kardashian’s son Kim Kardashian was playing there. When she saw West standing in front of the hall and arguing with someone, she filmed from her car. The rapper then ran to her car, snatched her cell phone through the car window and threw it on the ground.
Photographer demands compensation
The incident scared her so much that she was “not the same anymore,” said Lechmanik. West’s behavior has an impact on her ability to work, she is afraid to continue pursuing her job.
With her lawsuit, the photographer seeks “general, special and punitive damages,” according to attorney Gloria Allred. A sum was not mentioned.
In and around Los Angeles there are always confrontations between paparazzi and stars from the film and music business. Many celebrities complain that they are constantly hassled and stalked by photographers. The paparazzi, on the other hand, argue that they can only earn enough if they catch stars in a supposedly unobserved moment.
