Hello, I’m Rita Süssmuth. For, many, many years I have been involved with more women in politics. I am turning to you today because we need to change.
In 1918 we got the right to vote. Imagine: Up until 1987 there were less than 10 percent women in parliament. Power was male. Now the proportion of women has increased a bit, but I am in favor of parity. And many with me. Equal proportions of women and men who shape, advise and decide together.
The fact is: there are enough competent and strong women today. Of course there are women in politics, but there have to be more. Women are not lacking design ideas, but participation, influence and power.
We need you! Everyone participate! That we finally get more women […]who participate in our everyday political life. Because without participation there is no political influence.
And give us a sign, a signal that you are interested and that people don’t keep saying: women don’t want to get into politics. We need everyone now, all walks of life, all age groups. We can do it now and we have to do it.
Participate! I cordially invite you. Thanks!
