Ed Sheeran: That’s what he thinks about his GoT gig today

Ed Sheeran spoke about his cameo on “Game of Thrones” on a podcast – and the strong reactions to it.

Ed Sheeran (30) talked to Dax Shepard (46) about his cameo on “Game of Thrones” – and the strong reactions to it.

The singer describes that he was a fan of the show for years and asked the producers for a guest appearance back in 2012. When she finally decided in 2017 to make “Game of Thrones” actress and Sheeran fan Maisie Williams (24) alias Arya Stark a pleasure with Sheeran’s guest appearance, he couldn’t say no.

So it was, so to speak, a parting gift for Williams. “I think they hadn’t written the ending by then. It was supposed to be their last season, but it wasn’t. And as a surprise for them they got me,” Sheeran explained the situation. As a Lannister soldier, Sheeran sang a song by the fire in the seventh season of the episode “Dragonstone”.

The reactions clouded the joy

However, the joy of the experience only lasted for a short time. After the episode “Dragonstone” aired, many “GoT” fans complained about why Sheeran was allowed to appear on the series and detract from the plot. “I think people’s reaction has clouded my joy,” said Sheeran. Often people ask him why he would have done it. “Then I just ask: what would you have said?”

He’s finished acting, says Sheeran, who did another TV show called “The Bastard Executioner” and was featured in the third “Bridget Jones” film. He doesn’t feel confident enough as an actor: “I know perfectly well that I’m known for my radio face, so I’m not even trying to be a heartbreaker.”

Sheeran could imagine something else in that direction: “I would like to make an animated film. I would like to make an animated musical film.”
